Antioch Baby Found Safe After Amber Alert Issued

The Amber Alert issued for an 11-month-old baby in Antioch on Monday was called off after the baby in pink pajamas was found safe, according to the California Highway Patrol .

According to police, Justice Alasheia Benton was kidnapped from her home on Rainier Lane by her father, 23-old-year Joshua Benton.

Benton was later spotted with the child on Lone Tree Way in Antioch,  but he ran, leaving the baby behind unharmed. The girl has since been reunited with her mother.

Police said the suspect, who remains at large, is considered armed and dangerous.

"He was suspected to be the passenger of the vehicle," said Antioch Police Lieutenant Robin Kelley. "We had information that there were one to two shots fired in the alley way. We are not sure if he was firing at anybody, but for those reasons he is considered armed and dangerous at this time."

Joshua Benton is described as a black male, 5-foot-8, 144 pounds, with twisty-style hair and brown eyes, last seen wearing white shorts, blue t-shirt, flip flops and a brown hat.

The suspect was last seen driving a dark green Dodge Caravan with tinted back windows, police said in a release.  Police said is an unknown second suspect was driving the vehicle.

Police say they have had contact with Joshua Benton before, but the suspect's mother says Monday’s  incident a big misunderstanding.
