One of the top mobile games is about to get a location-based upgrade.

Members of the Angry Bird team at Rovio talked to GigaOm, explaining how gamers will soon be able to "check in" at certain places to unlock new features of the game.

The new feature, they're calling "Magic," will be able to tell when a person arrives at a location and get access to new content, such as "Mighty Eagle," the most powerful character in the game, as well as new, never before released content.

“We’re using this as a way to encourage people to go and find new places and new content,” Darahiba said. “It will be a distribution point for us.”

The company is rolling out Magic to its various Angry Birds games editions later this year and is preparing to announce new U.S. retail partners in the coming weeks.
