Two teacher's aides are facing charges in connection with a scuffle last week at an Antioch school for students with special needs, according to the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office.

Kamaljot Kaur, 26, was arrested on Wednesday after a video posted online a day earlier showed her allegedly striking a 9-year-old student at Tobinworld II at 2330 Country Hills Drive, Antioch police said.

Senior Deputy District Attorney Bruce Flynn said Monday that Kaur was charged Friday with misdemeanor child abuse.

Another teacher's aide, 22-year-old Chad Corbin, was charged with failing to report an incident of child abuse as a mandatory reporter, Flynn said.

Corbin restrained the Oakland boy before Kaur allegedly struck him, according to Antioch police. Corbin was contacted by police but has not been arrested.

According to police, Corbin told officers he was not aware Kaur was going to strike the student. He said he was just trying to help control the boy, police said.

Police said Kaur admitted to officers that she lost her temper.

Both Corbin and Kaur were suspended and then fired from their posts, according to Tobinworld officials.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident. The California Department of Education is also investigating the school to see if it still meets the state's certification requirements, department spokesman Peter Tira said Friday.
