Ambulances were sent to an East Bay water park after more than 30 people complained of sickness due to possible chemical exposure, authorities said.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the Antioch Water Park, 4701 Lone Tree Way, in Antioch on Thursday afternoon, according to a Contra Costa County Fire Department spokesperson.
There may have been an excessive amount of chlorine leaked into the pool, fire officials said.
At 2:29 p.m., emergency crews responded to reports of a child complaining of respiratory problems, authorities said.
The chemical exposure may be due to excessive chlorine that leaked into the pool, Fire Inspector Lisa Martinez said.
Seventeen people were transported by ambulance to area hospitals, Martinez said. Seventeen other people were assessed on-scene and released. Some of those were planning on self-transporting to the hospital for further treatment. Most of those who fell ill appeared to be children.
All injuries are considered minor, Martinez said.
Hazmat crews also arrived on scene to definitively determine the cause of the exposure, according to Martinez.
