Archbishop Mitty High School Freshman Fatally Struck by Car While Running Across Street

The South Bay teen who was hit by a car earlier this week is on life support and will serve as an organ donor, his cousin Anastasia Edwards said.

According to police, Loukas Angelo was struck while running across the street after school Wednesday.

Edwards said that the Archbishop Mitty High School freshman passed away late Friday night, having been on life support at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center since the accident.

"Our family has felt the outpouring of love from the care and support shown by friends, families and even those who hardly knew him," she wrote in an email. "My cousin has truly affected many people."

Loukas' friends took to social media, using the hashtag #PrayForLoukas.

The school's principal Tim Brosnan wrote an email to the Mitty community, expressing gratitude for the "overwhelming outpouring of love and support." A screenshot of his note was posted to Twitter.

Brosnan wrote: "I can appreciate that, for many of us, this has been a painful and heartbreaking emotional roller coaster. Unfortunately, much of this is unavoidable. Situations such as these are complex and demand time for families to process their grief and and make difficult decisions."

Loukas Angelo, shown here as a toddler, passed away Friday, Sept. 25, 2015 after being struck by a car earlier in the week. The teenager's family has decided to donate his organs.

Robert Sears, a math teacher at Hillbrook School in Los Gatos, where Loukas studied from kindergarten through eighth grade, also wrote a letter in honor of his former student.

"Loukas embodies the phrase 'Still waters run deep,'" Sears wrote. "The beauty and grace he is capable of is always present, under the surface, and on his feet."

The Angelo family plans to create an educational program fund in honor of Loukas.

"His spirit, quiet, strong and selfless will continue in our hearts and minds forever," Edwards said.
