Armed Man Robs Morgan Hill Citibank Branch

Police said getaway vehicle backed right up to bank door for fast exit

Morgan Hill police on Friday released some scary images of a brazen bank robbery showing a man in a ski mask jumping over the counter with a semi-automatic handgun and demanding money from the teller.

Police sent out the video a few hours after the 10 a.m. robbery at the CitiBank on Monterey Road in the hopes of catching the suspect.

Police said the armed man had an accomplice who backed up a stolen Jeep Grand Cherokee to the bank’s front door.  After the suspect stole an undisclosed amount of cash, both drove away and have not been seen since.

Despite the daylight break-in, police said the suspects didn't hurt the bank employees or the one bank customer who was in the branch.

“The bank employees and customer did exactly what police would hope for in a situation like this. They cooperated with the suspect’s demands for money and allowed him to leave. Property and money are replaceable--people are not,” police said in a statement.

The robbery was captured on video surveillance.

The Jeep was found abandoned about a mile away from the bank. Police said it had been stolen from Castroville.

The robber who entered the bank is described this way:

  • Latino man
  • 5’8”
  • medium build
  • black ski mask
  • black gloves
  • light gray sweatshirt
  • light gray colored pants
