Assault By Auto Injures Officer

A 29-year-old man was arrested for allegedly trying to run over an  Antioch police officer Saturday night, police said today.
The officer stopped the suspect, Antioch resident Thomas Lee  Duncan, on suspicion of driving a stolen vehicle in the 1000 block of Claudia  Court at about 7 p.m., according to police.
When the officer approached the driver's side of the vehicle,  Duncan allegedly turned the vehicle toward the officer and accelerated.
The vehicle knocked the officer to the ground and the suspect  drove away, police said. The officer was not seriously injured.
Other officers pursued Duncan into Pittsburg, where he drove over  a spike strip but still continued driving recklessly, according to police.
Eventually Duncan stopped the car and got out. He tried to run but  was taken into custody by a police K-9 unit, authorities said.
He was treated at an area hospital and transferred to the Martinez  Detention Facility.
