A construction worker propelled above BART tracks in a self-navigated bucket was struck Thursday afternoon by a BART train traveling  about 35 mph at the new West Dublin/Pleasanton BART station that is under construction, a BART spokesman said.

He was taken to a hospital with significant injuries just before 3 p.m., but BART spokesman Linton Johnson could not elaborate on his condition.

About 75 passengers were on the train when it hit the man, Johnson said. No one was injured, but they were evacuated and then taken to the  Dublin/Pleasanton station, he said.

The train that hit the contract worker will be towed to the  Hayward station, BART spokesman Jim Allison said.

Trains between Castro Valley and Dublin/Pleasanton stations  stopped operating. A bus bridge was running between the Castro Valley and Dublin/Pleasanton stations during the service outage. But service was fully restored by 4:43 p.m. The rest of the system was operating normally.
