BART Train Stuck in Transbay Tube Causes Major Delay

BART was recovering from a major delay in the Transbay Tube late Tuesday after a train got stuck in the brake position, agency spokesman Taylor Huckaby said.

The delay was first reported about 5:45 p.m. The system was recovering about an hour later.

Initial delays were about 20 minutes as the stalled train had to be removed manually to the West Oakland station, a slow process, Huckaby said.

Once the train was at the station, technicians tried to fix the brake issue. If the problem hadn't been repaired, the train would have been taken out of service, causing even longer delays, Huckaby said.

There was no threat to riders or the public, BART said.
