Bail Bumped up For Sacramento Man Accused in Fatal CHP Crash

Bail has been raised to $575,000 for a man authorities believe was the subject of police chase that resulted in an officer's death.

Alberto Morales Quiroz was arrested Thursday in connection with the death of California Highway Patrol Officer Lucas Chellew.

Investigators say Chellew was chasing Quiroz Wednesday when the officer crashed his motorcycle and was fatally injured.

The 26-year-old Quiroz could face a series of charges in connection with the chase. And the Sacramento Bee reports that bail was bumped up Friday from a separate warrant for burglary and other charges.

Quiroz is scheduled to be arraigned next week. It wasn't immediately known if he has an attorney.

Chellew leaves a wife and two young children. His father is a retired CHP captain, and his sister is also a CHP officer.
