A man in Bakersfield narrowly escaped death thanks to the heroics of a deputy.

Gregory McKay, 46, was walking along railroad tracks on Monday about 1 a.m. Deputy Paul Duncan managed to pull him away just moments before a train passed, KERO-TV reported.

The incident was captured by a sheriff's office helicopter.

McKay was drunk and walking on the tracks with the intent to commit suicide, according to deputies. He was booked into the Kern County Jail and placed on suicide watch, KERO-TV reported.
