Bank Chips in $25,000 to Fire-Damaged School

SJ's Trace Elementary fire "suspicious"

Trace Elementary School’s estimated $8 million in fire damage just got a little smaller.

Wells Fargo, headquartered in the Bay Area, donated $25,000 to help rebuild 16 classrooms destroyed in a five-alarm fire early Monday morning at the performing arts school in San Jose's Rose Garden neighborhood.

Helping the school was “the right thing to do,” Wells Fargo’s San Francisco Bay Area regional President Michael Billeci said in a press release. “We hope other companies and individuals can do what they can to help.”

Investigators are calling the fire “suspicious,” but haven’t released any more details.

School officials told parents class will begin as scheduled on Aug. 16, in portable classrooms.
