Bay Area Bridges Could Get Costlier to Cross

Crossing tolls at seven state-owned bridges could be costlier soon.

Bay Area drivers may soon be hit with yet another toll hike at seven state-owned bridges.

The Metropolitan Transportation Commission is warning commuters about the possible increase. If the Bay Area Toll Authority approves a $1 rate hike this fall, drivers will pay $5 instead of $4.

Transportation officials say the timing depends on state lawmakers. They are supposed to pass a bill that allows toll money to be used for seismic improvements for the Antioch and Dumbarton bridges.

The rate hike could go into effect as soon as next year.
