Welcome to 2017! Baby Born 12 Seconds After Midnight Believed to be First New Bay Area Child of 2017

It's a special nugget that Grace Emily Moreno will get to boast for the rest of her life.

The newborn girl entered the world at O'Connor Hospital in San Jose on Sunday just 12 seconds after midnight, which likely makes her the first child to be born in the Bay Area in 2017.

Proud parents Leslie and Edwin Moreno were smitten with the arrival.

"We wanted to actually have her before New Year's, but it actually feels amazing to have her on New Year's," Leslie Moreno said. "It was a great surprise."

Being one of the very first new babies of 2017 isn't the only fun fact baby Grace will be able to share as she grows older.

Her parents couldn't decide on a name, so they put an end to the debate with a simple coin flip.

Grace and her father also now share a special bond. Both were brought into the world at the same hospital by the same doctor, just 22 years apart of course.

"It's a very small world," Edwin Moreno said.

The Moreno family resides at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in San Diego and were visiting family in the Bay Area for the holiday season when the possibility of a New Year's Day baby came into play.

The couple was actually driving back home last Monday when they were forced to pull a U-turn. Leslie Moreno was beginning to feel minimal contractions, so the family decided to turn around and make a beeline for San Jose. Less than a week later, they were blessed with a baby girl.
