Bay Area Man Loses Toddler Inside Filthy Home

A Bay Area father was arrested and charged with felony child endangerment after losing track of his 3-year-old son in a filthy home.

The Vacaville Police Department said the man called Thursday morning in a panic to report his 3-year-old child missing after almost 3 hours of looking for the child on his own.  In the end the child was found sleeping in a back bedroom.

Police started a full search, including 15 police officers, two K-9 units from the sheriff's department and a California Highway Patrol chopper.

Vacaville police Sgt. Charlie Spruill said the home was "impassable" after initial search which he said always starts in the home. Officers found the boy "sleeping partially covered by old clothes, trash and other items."

Officials said based on the condition of the home and loaded weapons found within the home within the child's reach, the father was arrested on charges of felony child endangerment.

Three other children in the home -- ages 1 and a half, 7 and 11 -- along with the 3-year-old were placed into Solano County protective services.

Police said a request for charges has been forwarded to Solano County District Attorney.
