SAN FRANCISCO:

San Francisco New Year's Eve Fireworks Show

Time: 11:59 p.m., Cost: Free, Fireworks: Yes, Location: 4 Embarcadero Center, San Francisco, CA

San Francisco will host a New Year's Eve fireworks show just before midnight. Ring in the New Year with 200,000 other people bundled up for a free waterfront fireworks tradition.

Masquerade Ball

Time: 9 p.m., Cost: $160, Fireworks: No, Location: Davies Symphony Hall, 201 Van Ness Ave. at Grove Street, San Francisco, CA

San Francisco Symphony is hosting masquerade ball with a three-course dinner.

Noon Year's Eve

Time: 9 a.m. - 2 p.m., Cost: $2-$6, Fireworks: No, Location: Bay Area Discovery Museum, 557 McReynolds Rd., Sausalito, CA

For those who can't stay up past their bedtime, the Bay Area Discovery Museum is hosting a count down to noon for kids.

OAKLAND:

Ramen Shop NYE

Time: 7 p.m., Cost: $40-$75, Fireworks: No, Location: 5812 College Ave., Oakland, CA

Ramen Shop is celebrating New Year's Eve, and its one-year anniversary. Includes five-course meal and drinks.

Chabot Daytime Balloon Drop

Time: 11 a.m. - 4 p.m., Cost: $5 plus general admission, Fireworks: No, Location: Chabot Space and Science Center, 10000 Skyline Blvd., Oakland, CA

The event celebrates strokes of midnight around the world with thousands of balloons, and kids get special gift!

SAN JOSE:

Children's Discovery Museum New Year's Eve

Time: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., Cost: $12 (Age one and under are free), Fireworks: No, Location: 80 Woz Wy., San Jose, CA

Celebrate a New Year's ball drop through three time zones. There will be games, prizes, arts and crafts.

ComedySportz New Year's Eve

Time: 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., Cost: $25, Fireworks: No, Location: 288 South 2nd Street, San Jose, CA

Party favors and Psycho Donut buffet as well as champagne/sparkling cider toast. Both shows will include a countdown to midnight (one for the East Coast).

SANTA CLARA:

Bay Area Singles Giant NYE

Time: 7 p.m., Cost: $20-$150, Fireworks: No, Location: Santa Clara Convention Center, 5001 Great America Pkwy., Santa Clara, CA

There will be a singles event, food, drinks, games, and prizes. Must be over 21 years old.

BERKELEY:

Starry Night New Year's Eve Cruise

Time: 8 p.m., Cost: $140, Fireworks: Yes, Location: 200 Marina Blvd., Berkeley, CA

Celebrate New Years with dinner, dancing, drinks, views and fireworks.

New Year's Eve Waltz Ball

Time: 7 p.m., Cost: $20-$25, Fireworks: No, Location: 2299 Piedmond Ave., Berkeley, CA

Dance the night away with a Waltz class from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Dance begins at 9 p.m.

New Year's Eve Bluegrass Revue

Time: 8 p.m., Cost: $28-$31, Fireworks: No, Location: 2020 Addison St., Berkeley, CA

Welcome the new year with the annual bluegrass gala with performers High Country and Dix Bruce & Jim Nunally as the Freight.

VALLEJO:

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom

Time: 4 p.m. - 12 a.m., Cost: $42.99-$62.99, Fireworks: Yes, Location: 1001 Fairgrounds Drive, Vallejo, CA

Festivities include live entertainment, holiday music and a midnight fireworks display. Take in millions of twinkling lights, enjoy the myriad of holiday shows and stroll through fun themed areas. Hop aboard thrilling roller coasters at night and experience your favorite rides and attractions.

TRANSPORTATION:

Don't get caught this New Year's Eve without a safe, and in many cases FREE, transportation option because there are plenty around the Bay. 

AAA runs their "Tipsy Tow Program" where they say "Don't Drive Drunk - Get a FREE ride home." Check to see if your area participates in this one.
 
Public transit will be running extra service tonight to help you get where you need to go.
 
  • Let VTA Be Your Designated Driver On New Year's Eve. VTA is offering FREE rides and will have extended hours on the Light Rail and Express Bus service that runs between Fremont and San Jose. >>Details
  • BART will run til 3 am on New Year's Eve but you'll have to pay normal fare for those routes available. Check the extended service schedule and stops. >>Details
  • Caltrain is offering FREE rides for New Years Eve and their last train leaves SF at 2:15 a.m. >>Details
  • Samtrans will alos let folks ride for FREE between 8:00 tonight and 5:00 tomorrow morning. After that it's back to their Sunday Schedule for the rest of New Year’s Day.   >>Details
  • Some Muni riders will get their trip gratis, others will simply see extra service on New Year's Eve. This also starts at 8:00PM and continues thru 5:00AM on Wednesday. >>Details
