A San Francisco Bay area teen has drowned in while swimming in a popular Sierra lake.

Fresno County authorities say 16-year-old Robert Maldonado of Newark drowned Saturday afternoon during an outing with friends at Shaver Lake.

Maldonado was pronounced dead while being transported to a hospital.
