Pelosi and Boehner Square Off in Illinois

The battle for Illinois district is drawing national attention.

Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi reportedly is giving financial support to a Democratic Congressional candidate in Illinois named Tammy Duckworth.

Pelosi has written two checks totaling $7,000 to Duckworth’s campaign, according to the Chicago Sun Times

The reason behind the support falls to current House Speaker John Boehner, but you have to follow a political flowchart of sorts to get there.

Right now Duckworth faces Raja Krishnamoorthi in the March primary, and the winner of that race could face Tea Party Congressman Joe Walsh.

Should Duckworth and Walsh face off in the general, it would pit Pelosi's favored candidate against Boehner's favored candidate.

Boehner reportedly supports Walsh, and encouraged him to decide on running in the 8th district rather than change to the 14th and face fellow Republican Randy Hultgren. Reports said that Boehner has also pledged some measure of financial support to Walsh.

Last week the Daily Herald said the Speaker promised Walsh $3.5 million, but Boehner's communication staff  told NBC Chicago's political blog Ward Room that figure was never discussed.
