Berkeley Passenger Arrested After Disrupting United Airlines Flight in Europe

An airline passenger from Berkeley was arrested after his United Airlines flight was diverted to Belfast, Ireland, the result of his disruptive behavior in the air.

According to U TV, Jeremiah Mathis Thede, 42, was arrested Saturday after cabin crew said that he was "aggressive and abusive" to them after he demanded nuts and crackers and was then asked to return to his seat, allegedly assaulting a female flight attendant.

Thede was charged with "endangering the safety of the plane, disruptive behaviour on board an aircraft and common assault" and is currently in custody under psychiatric evaluation.

Because of the flight's emergency grounding, more than 280 passengers on the flight from Rome to Chicago had to spend the night in the Belfast airport before completing the journey on Sunday.
