Seismically Unsafe

A recent investigation uncovered nearly 180 buildings on UC and CSU campuses are seismically unsafe

So, which buildings on University of California and California State University campuses do you not want to be in when the big one hits?

Well, there is no, single place where the state keeps that information. At UC Berkeley, though, there is the Seismic Action Plan for Facilities Enhancement and Renewel (SAFER) program. It contains a list of the seismic ratings for every building on the Berkeley campus. The ratings run from 'good' to 'very poor.' You can view the list here.

California Watch, a project of the Center for Investigative Journalism, also did a comprehensive investigation last spring into the safety of buildings on public university campuses. Reporter Erica Perez compiled information from across the UC and CSU system into a single database. You can read her investigation and view interactive maps here.
