Huge flames burst from a big rig fire that caught fire in the South Bay early Wednesday morning.

The big rig, carrying chicken, corn and gravy for KFC, collided with a pickup truck on the Lawrence Expressway on the Santa Clara-Sunnyvale border.

Heat from the fire was so hot that it melted some of the traffic lights in the area.

The intersection was partially reopened by about 6 a.m. and all clear by 7 a.m.

The collision was reported at about 1 a.m. at the intersection of  the Lawrence Expressway and E. Homestead Road, according to CHP Officer Aaron  Quistad.

The explosion that followed woke several people who lived near by from a dead sleep.

Both the front cab of the big rig and the other vehicle caught  fire, according to Quistad, who did not know if the chickens were alive at  the time of the collision.

At least one person involved in the collision suffered minor  injuries, according to CHP Officer Kevin Kroncke.

One thing is for sure: the chicken was extra crispy.
