Bill Lockyer Calls Off Divorce From Wife, Fresh from Meth Rehab

Nadia Lockyer has rehabbed her meth addiction

She's back from rehab. And so Nadia Lockyer is also redeemed in the eyes of her husband, state Treasurer Bill Lockyer -- who now wants to stay married, according to reports.

Lockyer, 71, filed for divorce after undergoing a rather dramatic turn with his much-younger wife, a former Alameda County supervisor who resigned following public revelations of an affair with Steve Chikhani, a methaphetamine-using parolee she had met in rehab.

But this week Bill Lockyer, a political warhorse who has held multiple state offices including Attorney General, withdrew his divorce papers, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

The couple have "agreed to try and work things out," according to a Lockyer spokesman.

Nadia Lockyer just completed an 180-day court-mandated rehab program following an arrest in Orange County for drug possession. She was found to be possessing drugs in the southern California home where she was living with the couple's nine year-old son, Diego.

News of her affair broke in a spectacular way: during a tryst at a Hayward motel room, an argument broke out. Chikhani was initially suspected of assault, and Nadia Lockyer insisted they were just friends before rumors of a sex tape circulated.

In any event, it appears Bill Lockyer's political career is continuing apace: he's formed a committee to run for state Controller in 2014, after he's termed out from his job as Treasurer.
