Bird Lovers Called to Stamp Competition

Judges will choose from eight entry.

Bird lovers are invited to attend the judging of California's 2012 Upland Game Bird Stamp art competition.

Judges will select a winner on April 16 in the Yolo Wildlife Area Headquarters in Davis at 10 a.m.

Eight artists from across the country entered an original drawing of a Band-tailed Pigeon. Artists were told that if they included a background image with the bird, they had to make it life-like and like the bird's natural habitat.

The designs will be judged on originality, artistic composition, anatomical accuracy and suitability for reproduction as a stamp and a print.

The winning artists will have his or her work reproduced on the 2012 California Upland Game Bird Stamp, which is required for hunting migratory and resident upland game birds in California.
