Birds Go Off Limits For Summer

The Audubon Canyon Ranch has announced this year's public season at the Bolinas Lagoon Preserve in Marin County will end in July.

The 1,000-acre preserve, which provides regional habitat protection and restoration as well as hands-on environmental education programs for children and adults, will be open Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. until July 11.

Visitors can observe egrets and their chicks in more than 80 nests at the preserve, located three miles north of Stinson Beach on state Highway 1, according to the Audubon Canyon Ranch.

The Bolinas Lagoon Preserve also offers eight miles of hiking trails, picnic tables, bird and wildlife viewing platforms with spotting scopes and binoculars, and an education-focused bookstore.

The preserve hosts elementary students from throughout the Bay Area during the school year in addition to its public season.
