Body Found on Rodeo Beach Is Missing Surfer: Sheriff

The body of a missing surfer was found Friday morning at Rodeo Beach, days after he had been reported lost at sea, according to the Marin County Sheriff's Office.

National Park Service Spokeswoman Alex Picavet said the body was found at 11:30 a.m. and taken to the coroner's office. The sheriff confirmed later in the day the body is that of surfer Dan Dafoe, 40, of San Rafael.

Dafoe was knocked unconscious in the rough waters of the beach.

Two people attempted to bring him onto the beach, but they were knocked down by a big wave and lost him, according to NPS spokeswoman Alexandra Picavet.

Dafoe was last seen in the water near a cave at the north end of the beach, Marin County Fire Department Battalion Chief Bret McTigue said.
