Body of Missing Tomales Bay Oyster Company Owner Found

The body of Tomales Bay Oyster Company owner Charles "Tod" Friend, who disappeared from his boat in Tomales Bay, was found Saturday and "brought to shore surrounded by those who love him," according to the Tomales Bay Oyster Co. Facebook page.

Friend, 70, of Oakland, was last seen around 3:15 p.m. Tuesday. An employee of Marshall-based Hog Island Oyster Co. saw Friend's boat going in a circle with no sign of Friend aboard it, according to the Marin County Sheriff's Department.

Friend's body was pulled from the water sometime Saturday afternoon, according to the Facebook page.

"We are deeply saddened by his loss but also heartened by the outpouring of love from all of our extended family and friends," a statement on the oyster company Facebook page read. "Please know how very much we appreciate all of the support we've been given over these last, very difficult days."

Investigators believe Friend was not wearing a life vest and fell off his boat.
