Body Parts Found Along Sunnyvale Sidewalk

The Sunnyvale police department is investigating a disturbing and gruesome find in a quiet neighborhood Sunday morning.

Police said someone discovered what police describe as "body parts" visible inside a garbage bag in the front yard of a home on Ticonderoga Drive.

Dispatchers got a call at 10:10 a.m. Sunday that there was a garbage bag that looked like there was a body in it lying between two bushes next to the sidewalk.

When officers arrived they said they saw what they believe was blood in a loosely cinched bag.  When police looked inside they saw what they describe as "body parts."

The Santa Clara crime lab and coroner came to the scene and spent several hours collecting evidence.  Sunnyvale police said the lab will try to determine the cause of death and the gender of the victim.  Police told NBC Bay Area's Christie Smith that the body appears to be that of a female hispanic woman, but would not say anything else. An autopsy was being done Monday and they hoped to be able to release more information later on Monday.

Ticonderoga Drive is a short street near Highway 85 and W. Fremont Ave.

Those are all the details Sunnyvale police would release as of Sunday evening.  NBC Bay Area will follow this case and update this story with new information when it becomes available.
