The body of a 14-year-old boy was recovered from Lake Sonoma on Monday afternoon, the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office said.
The teen was ejected from an inner tube that was being towed from a personal watercraft on the lake near a private marina around 4 p.m. Saturday.
Another juvenile was able to swim to shore, but the 14-year-old boy went under the water. Neither of them was wearing a life vest, the sheriff's office said.
The water was searched until dark on Saturday and Sunday and resumed at 8 a.m. Monday, Sgt. Cecile Focha said. The sheriff's office's marine unit found the boy's body at 2:24 p.m., Focha said.
An autopsy will determine the cause and manner of the boy's death, Focha said, adding that the teen's family has asked the sheriff's office not to release the boy's name at this time.
Dive teams from Marin, Alameda and Contra Costa counties participated in the search in the 50-150 feet deep water, and the Lakeville Fire Department sent a sonar-equipped vessel to the lake, Focha said.
It was the second presumed drowning in Sonoma County over the weekend. Jose Fernando Campos-Campos, 20 of Pittsburg, was in a raft at Monte Rio Beach on the Russian River when he disappeared under water around 12:20 p.m. Saturday. His body was recovered around 7 p.m.
