Al's Place in SF Named Bon Appétit's Best New Restaurant in U.S.

Following a recent declaration that San Francisco is the best food city in the country right now, Bon Appétit has named a local eatery to be the best new restaurant in the United States.

Al's Place, which debuted in February, is the first San Francisco restaurant project for chef/owner Aaron London, who previously built an acclaimed reputation as chef at Ubuntu, a now defunct vegetarian restaurant in Napa.

London's menu is largely produce and plant focused, with most meat and proteins offered in side order portions. Main items average $15-19; London also offers a family style dinner ($60 per person) as well as a chef's tasting menu ($85).

Another SF newcomer, Japanese restaurant Izakaya Rintaro, also made the magazine's top 10 list, in eighth place.

The accolade from Bon Appétit has an immediate impact on Al's Place; reservations for parties of two appear to be booked up for the next eight weeks on OpenTable.
