Boy Killed, Dad Arrested After Police Chase on Highway 1

An 8-year-old boy is dead and his father is in police custody after a police chase and crash on Highway 1 in Seaside.

Isiah Solis Becker was in the passenger seat of his dad's 1993 Lexus sedan Tuesday at about 1 a.m. when a CSU Monterey Bay cop, who suspected the driver was drunk, started following the car. The driver, Zabdiel Solis Arciga, was going at least 100 mph as he got onto the highway, police say.

The officer was going 110 mph but still couldn't keep up with the Lexus, police said. The officer estimated Arciga was driving 120 mph, Interim Chief Earl Lawson said. The officer lost sight of the car as it got off the highway. It looked as if the passenger side of the car slammed into the guardrail, Lawson said.

Isiah was flown to a hospital in San Jose but he died. Arciga was treated for injuries at a Monterey hospital then arrested and booked into the county jail. He's being held on $100,000 bail. He faces charges of vehicular manslaughter and felony drunken driving.
