Break in Case of Aromas Body

The mystery of a woman's body dumped in Aromas is now solved.

There appears to be a break in a homicide case that had much of the Bay Area's attention one week ago.

That's when passerbys found a woman's body just off Highway 101 south of the Santa Clara County line in the town of Aromas.

For a time there was speculation the body could be that of missing Morgan Hill teenager Sierra LaMar.

By Friday night investigators said it was not Sierra, but the woman was a victim of a homicide.

Today, came the identity of the victim and the arrest of a suspect.

The victim has been identified as Norife Jones, a 29 year old from San Jose. Her estranged husband, a professor at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, is suspected of killing her.

FBI special agents raided the home of 69-year-old Lawrence Jones late Thursday night. Jones lives in an upscale oceanfront neighborhood near Del Monte Beach in Monterey County.

Investigators told KSBW in Salinas, they believe Jones murdered his wife inside the home, then dumped her in a remote patch of Aromas near Highway 101.

Jones was arrested in Los Angeles and will be transported back to Monterey, according to investigators.

KSBW reported Norife Jones lived with Lawrence Jones in Monterey and New Mexico for several years. Investigators believe she recently moved from San Jose back to Monterey to live with her estranged husband before she was slain.
