Divers Look for Missing Oakland Man

A water rescue is now a recovery in Oakland for a man who went to search for his cat and may have fallen into a lake inside a quarry. Fire crews arrived on scene around 7:15 p.m. and requested the dive team to search the waterway located behind 4400 Montgomery street. The victim may have fallen 75 to 100 feet down the steep cliff and into the water below. Firefighters are telling NBC Bay Area that they believe the man is dead. Cheryl Hurd reports.

A water rescue is now a recovery mission in Oakland for a man who went to search for his cat and fell into a lake inside a quarry.

Fire crews arrived on scene around 7:15 p.m. and requested the dive team to search the waterway located behind 4400 Montgomery street. The location is behind the Rockridge Shopping Center.

The victim may have fallen 75 to 100 feet down the steep cliff and into the water below that's thought to be about 40 feet deep.

Firefighters told NBC Bay Area news that they believe the man is dead. They're now treating the mission as a recovery effort.
