The brother of San Francisco 49ers' tight end Vernon Davis was arrested Thursday night and charged with aggravated assault for allegedly striking a woman on the head with a hammer.
Washington, D.C. police are investigating whether Michael Davis is also responsible for a series of similar attacks, including the killing of a man visiting from Colorado.
Police Chief Cathy Lanier said Friday that the 19-year-old brother of the 49ers' star and Miami Dolphins cornerback Vontae Davis was taken into custody Thursday evening.
"Just got a disturbing call from back home in washington dc (sic)," Vernon Davis tweeted Thursday. "A good day gone bad! Hopefully he wasn't involved!"
Authorities say Davis attacked the woman in the same Washington neighborhood where the other attacks occurred. The woman has a serious head injury.
Police are trying to determine if Davis is linked to several other assaults in the Petworth area of Washington, including the Tuesday evening killing of 66-year-old Gary Dederichs.
