Burglar Breaks Into Mojo Burger in Willow Glen, Steals Safe Bolted to Floor: Owner

The owner of Mojo Burger said he has been burglarized twice this week – in the latest heist, the suspects made off with a safe that was bolted to the floor.

Peter Favre told NBC Bay Area that his San Jose restaurant was burglarized on Monday and sometime Thursday or early Friday morning – he got a call from police about 5:30 a.m. to say his shop in the 1100 block of Bird Avenue in Willow Glen had been robbed.

“They removed the safe bolted to the ground and got out the back door,” a frustrated Favre said, adding that he was told by the glass company that 11 restaurants in the nearby area had also been hit. “Obviously, there’s a serious group going around hitting restaurants.

Video surveillance of Monday’s burglary showed a young man in a hoodie breaking in with his body and then getting away very quickly.

Favre also took aim at police and the mayor, for what he sees as an ineffective law enforcement system, especially in a tony party of town. Police declined to comment and Mayor Sam Liccardo was out of town.

“I felt five times safer in Costa Rica than I do in Willow Glen,” Favre said. “There are basic things in life and safety is one of them.”
