Suspect Who Escaped From Bail Bondsman in October Nabbed After San Jose Standoff: Police

A suspect who escaped from a bail bondsman last month was nabbed by police after a standoff late Thursday in East San Jose.

Police said Neang Nghounoi was wanted on suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon and multiple counts of burglary and attempted burglary.

The standoff developed when officers attempted to contact the 29-year-old Nghounoi at a home on Ashkam Place Court. Several people fled the home on foot and jumped over fences in the area when officers arrived, police said.

One person was detained and later arrested on an outstanding warrant, while others ran back inside the home, including Nghounoi.

Nghounoi, described by police as a known gang member, remained inside the home with several other people and refused to come out, police said.

Police during the standoff set up a perimeter around the home and asked residents to shelter in place.

Nghounoi was captured around 8:45 p.m., police said. Police late Thursday also announced the arrest of Kristina Hernandez, who along with Nghounoi were wanted in connection to a burglary.

On Oct. 7, police said Nghounoi was in handcuffs when he escaped from All-Pro Bail Bonds on 1st Street in downtown San Jose. The escape prompted a manhunt. Nghounoi was taken into custody earlier that day by a bail bondsman for failing to appear in court.
