Busy Day For Fire Crews Across the Bay Area

Firefighters knock down blazes in San Jose, San Mateo County, Marin County and Dublin

Fire crews across the Bay Area were kept busy Sunday as blazes broke out in the North Bay, East Bay, South Bay and on the Peninsula.

Two brush fires in North San Jose were extinguished quickly, each one charring about 2 acres. One of them was caused by the sparks from a car's screeching tires, according to the San Jose Fire Department. The other blaze sparked behind a Lowe's store and fire officials have called it suspicious. It is under investigation.

In San Mateo County, fire crews battled three fires, one a brush fire in the city of San Mateo contained to about a quarter-acre. Structures were threatened, but firefighters with Cal Fire and the city of San Mateo quickly got a handle on it, officials said.

Earlier in Pescadero, firefighters put out a structure fire at a single-story market that was fully involved when they arrived, fire officials said. The building was a total loss, they said, but there were no injuries and the blaze is under investigation.

Later Sunday in Menlo Park, firefighters knocked down a residential fire, that left one person with minor injuries, according to fire Chief Harold Schapelhouman. The fire was first reported at 6:08 p.m. near the rear of a structure located at 336 Grayson Court.

Upon arrival, the fire had spread to an attached covered patio, and was rapidly spreading into the unoccupied home, according to fire officials. One of the residents returned home prior to the arrival of firefighters and suffered minor injuries when they attempted to save rabbits at the home.

In Marin County, firefighters battled a 10-acre blaze just outside of Fairfax, near a Boy Scout camp, according to fire officials. The fire began at 4:27 p.m. on Serpentine Knoll Trail.

Marin County fire officials said no structures were immediately threatened, no evcuations warnings were issued and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Finally, in Dublin, a brush fire in a "threat area" sparked off of Dublin Canyon and Schaefer roads, Cal Fire said. Fire crews launched aircraft to help extinguish the blaze.

The fire was at 11 acres late Sunday, and its forward progress had been stopped, according to Cal Fire. Firefighters are expected to be on the scene throughout the night as they work to contain it.

Warm temperatures inland Monday won't do much to decrease the high fire risk, but the sea breeze should increase and marine air will begin to deepen slightly later in the day, according to NBC Bay Area meteorologist Rob Mayeda.

It will likely take about 36 hours before the onshore push of cooler air makes a real dent in inland temperatures, he said.

On Monday, temperatures are expected in the mid-90s to near 100 again in inland valleys. By Tuesday, all areas should be about 10-15 degrees cooler inland, Mayeda said.
