The Butte Fire in Calaveras and Amador counties had charred slightly more than 71,000 acres by Wednesday - about the same as the day before - but new tallies showed that 233 homes and 175 other buildings had been destroyed, Cal Fire said.
Earlier estimates placed the number of damaged buildings at 81 homes and 51 buildings. By Wednesday, Cal Fire crews had the blaze 45 percent contained, and had ranked the fire as the 14th worst in California history.
