CHP Arrests Suspects After High-Speed Chase, Crash in Martinez

A high-speed chase that began in the Sacramento area ended up with a big crash Wednesday morning into a fence about 60 miles away in Martinez. And it now has authorities wondering if the four suspects arrested are connected to a string of other crimes.

The California Highway Patrol said the picked up the chase about 2:50 a.m. on Interstate 80 near Fairfield. Ten minutes later, the chase ended with a four-door Cadillac sedan crashing into a fence off Interstate 680 at Arthur Road in Martinez. CHP Officer John Fransen said officers had placed a spike strip past the Benicia Bridge, essentially disabling the Cadillac.

The suspects ran, but according the the CHP,  four were ultimately arrested. One woman was seen surrendering to officers outside the crashed sedan, and two others were arrested at the scene. The fourth suspect was taken into custoy later after he snuck into someone's house on Nardi Lane.

One neighbor witnessed some of the chaos.

"I saw a lot of flashing lights," Saber Ogden said. "Officers told me there was a suspect on the loose, armed and dangerous, and I should stay inside and lock all the doors."

Fransen did not release many details about what other crimes the four might be linked to. He added that "multiple agencies" are looking into it and still "piecing together" all the evidence.

NBC Bay Area's Shawn Murphy and Craig Cannon contributed to this report.
