The California Highway Patrol has identified the mystery woman who dramatically evaded law enforcement officers and jumped from the Bay Bridge, only to resurface later in San Francisco.
Officers on Thursday released a photo of 25-year-old Erlynn K. Sanchez-Edwards of Richmond who they believe crashed a stolen car on the bridge at 2:00 a.m. Wednesday. According to CHP, the woman ran from officers, climbed over the Bay Bridge guard rail and plunged nearly 75 ft. into the bay below.
Police say that CHP officers trained in mental health and crisis intervention tried to pull her over the railing, but she was able to pull out of the officer's grip and jump. Officers believe Sanchez-Edwards survived the fall, got out of the water and flagged down a dump truck driver who dropped her off in San Francisco. She was last seen in the city's Fremont and Folsom street area, officers said.
CHP officers found an ID floating in the bay which they believe belongs to Sanchez-Edwards.The ID has an East Bay address.
Sanchez-Edwards is wanted by CHP for questioning in connection to vehicle theft, hit and run and resisting arrest.
