Police Officer Shoots Suspect Driving Stolen Car

The officer returned fire and hit the suspect once, but the suspect's injuries did not appear to be life threatening.
A Pinole police officer shot and injured a suspect driving a stolen car Friday evening after the man allegedly opened fire, a CHP officer said.
It was initially reported that a CHP officer had fired the shot, but after further investigation, it was discovered that it was actually a Pinole officer who shot the suspect, according to CHP Officer Elon Steers.
A CHP officer spotted the stolen black Chrysler 300 sedan on westbound state Highway 4 just after 5 p.m., Steers said. After determining the Chrysler was stolen, the officer followed behind the vehicle while waiting for backup.
At some point, however, the suspect realized he was being followed and made an abrupt exit at Pinole Valley Road.
The officer followed, and the sedan stopped in the Kaiser parking lot at 1301 Pinole Valley Road. The suspect then got out of the car and allegedly started firing at the officer, Steers said.
A Pinole Police Department officer returned fire and hit the suspect once. The suspect's injuries do not appear to be life threatening.
No one else was struck or injured. Steers said it was unclear if there were other people in the lot at the time of the shooting.
Pinole police are investigating the case, Steers said.
