A wild chase through the East Bay ended with officers using a stun gun on a suspect who listed himself as an Uber driver, the California Highway Patrol said.
The CHP says the pursuit started just before 9 p.m. Monday on Interstate-80 when officers tried to pull over Idrees Zalmy, who they said was driving his Camry with his high beams on.
Zalmy didn't stop, according to CHP Officer Sean Wilkenfeld. And he led officers on a chse through Albany, Emeryville, Berkeley and Oakland, and at times, topped out at 100 mph.
The pursuit ended on Interstate Highway 880 in Oakland near the Coliseum about 9:30 p.m. when officers detained him with a stun gun. He is now facing felony evading and resisting arrest charges, Wilkenfeld said.
In a statement, Uber said the company had suspended "Mr. Zalmy's" account while the investigation is ongoing. Uber also said that Zalmy was not logged into the Uber app at the time of the incident. Uber also said that Zalmy had been an Uber since March 3 and had made six trips in total.
