CSU East Bay Gets Private Funding

CSU East Bay is getting some much needed money.

The Bayer Corp. is giving the university a $540,000 grant according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

The money will be used to create the Center for STEM Education on the university's Hayward campus. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and math.

The new center will help elementary and secondary schools by training new science and math teachers. It will also offer resources to help teachers in grades K through 12.

In 2009, CSU East Bay won a $1.5 million grant from the National Science Foundation that helped the university offer certificate programs in green jobs and prepare students for medical and veterinary schools.
