Cache of Firearms, Drugs and Cash Found in SJ Home

SWAT members converged on two South Bay homes over the weekend and apparently hit a mother lode of illegal items.

On Sunday, as part of an ongoing investigation, Santa Clara County Sheriff’s deputies served search warrants in San Jose and Campbell.

Both searches ended in arrests.

The San Jose search also found thousands of dollars in cash and drugs.

Officers arrested Philip Straley, 46, after finding the following items in his home:

  • AK-47 assault rifle
  • hundreds of rounds of ammunition
  • two  loaded handguns
  • one pound of methamphetamine
  • 0.7 pounds of cocaine
  • 23 pounds of marijuana
  • 3,100 pseudoephedrine tablets (main ingredient for making methamphetamine)
  • $26,000 in cash

Police say the drugs alone had a street value of more than $121,000.

Straley is in the Main Jail in San Jose facing a laundry list of charges. His bail has been set at $165,000.

The second home was in Campbell.  Police said they arrested Matthew Colangelo, 34, after finding a small amount of meth in his home.  Colangelo was booked on a no bail warrant for possesion of a controlled substance and a parole violation.

SWAT teams from Campbell, Los Gatos and Sunnyvale police departments helped with both searches.
