Sorry SF, Circumcision is a State Issue Now

Supporters of banning circumcision in San Francisco will have to take their tips to the State legislature now.

Governor Jerry Brown signed a bill that will stop local governments from creating their own circumcision law.  It will now be in the hands of the state government.

The Governor's office announced yesterday the signing of bill AB768, written in response to the controversial ballot measure, reports the Associated Press.

The issue, which was raised in November, had more than 7,700 signatures in San Francisco.

Supporters of the ban claim the surgery is unnecessary, and brutal.

Those opposed argue it should not be banned for health and religious reasons.
