Caltrain Considers Raising Parking Fees at Stations During 49ers Games

Caltrain is considering raising parking fees as high as $25 a day at its Mountain View station during San Francisco 49ers games or special events at nearby Levi's Stadium.

The idea is to discourage people from filling the lot and riding light rail to the new Santa Clara stadium, Caltrain officials said. Several Caltrain riders said they may skip the train during special event pricing is in effect and take a taxi.

"Coming from Sunnyvale to Mountain View can be around $30 in traffic," said Andrea Falk, a Sunnyvale resident.  "So I would have to weigh my options and see what's best."

Mountain View is not the only station where prices may increase. Caltrain also is considering special-event pricing near the San Mateo Events Center at the Hillsdale and Hayward park stations.

Caltrain authorities are scheduled to vote on the proposal next month. If approved, the special-event pricing would begin in August.
