UPDATED: Caltrain Strikes, Kills Man in Burlingame

The accident occurred in Burlingame at 12:23pm; trains are back to normal as of 2pm

Northbound train #151 will board passengers at the San Mateo station from the southbound platform. At this time, the train is on time. All passengers at the Millbrae station are boarding on the southbound platform.

The post-game baseball special, which was scheduled to leave San Francisco at 3:35 p.m., has been canceled.

Both the north- and southbound tracks have been opened for trains operating at reduced speed. Train #143, which was involved in the fatality, has arrived at Burlingame and about 900 passengers have gotten off the train and will continue their trip on a special northbound train. SamTrans will operate a bus bridge between San Mateo and Millbrae.

Caltrain and SamTrans ambassadors are at the Millbrae and San Mateo stations to direct riders. Caltrain operates hourly during the midday. At 12:23 p.m. northbound Caltrain #143 struck and killed an adult male trespasser on the right of way at Peninsula Avenue in Burlingame. No vehicles were involved.

Approximately 900 people are on board the train. The train left the Tamien station in San Jose at 11:10 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive at the Burlingame station at 12:08 p.m. It was a local train, stopping at all stations.

There have been eight fatalities on the Caltrain right of way this year. Last year there were 11 fatalities. No identification for the person is available at this time.

The preliminary information indicates that this was an intentional act.

Following a complete investigation, the San Mateo County coroner will make the official determination of the cause of death.
