Ross Abinanti, the Campbell man who disappeared June 30 and was found ten days later, has recovered sufficiently to be removed from the intensive care unit, his family announced.

"Ross has passed his swallow test (he hasn't been able to swallow for 10 days) and is now eating solid food! He is so excited (and so are we)!" wrote the Abinanti family in an email.

Abinanti, who has severe dementia, wandered away from a car at The Rock Bottom Brewery in Campbell after his wife left him with his disabled brother-in-law for a few minutes to buy ice cream. As the days passed with no sign of his whereabouts, his family used Facebook, Twitter, email blasts, fliers, and daily searches of the area in an attempt to locate him.

A little league team eventually found found Abinanti in a dry creek bed behind Jake's of Saratoga pizzeria. He was able to tell authorities his name and was reunited with his family at a local hospital.

Abinanti will remain hospitalized as he recovers from the dehydration, malnourishment, and infection he experienced while living in the creek bed.

"I hope [the hospital has] locked doors," joked the email.
