Car Flies Off 85 Overpass in San Jose, Crashes Below

Two adults and a toddler flew off freeway following crash, but none were seriously injured

A two-vehicle crash in south San Jose on Highway 85 ended with one of the vehicles flying off the highway to the ground below.

It happened around 10:30 a.m. The car ended up in a brush area by a chain-link fence near the intersection of Blossom Hill Road and Snell Avenue, south of Cottle.

Officers on the scene said it could have been a lot worse.

"They dodged about probably 8 or 9 trees in between where they left the freeway and their point of rest over here, so luckily they didn't go head on into one of those trees," CHP officer Daniel Mendia said.

According to the San Jose Fire Department, after the cars crashed while traveling northbound on 85, one of them spun out and then fell off the roadway.

There were three people inside the vehicle that flew off the highway, including a pregnant woman. She had to be extricated, according to a fire spokesperson.

All three were transported to the hospital with mild to moderate injuries. The victims were identified as two adult and one child.

No one in the other car, which remained on the overpass, was injured.

The CHP is investigating the cause of the crash.
