2 Dead After Car Rams Into Cement Wall in Vallejo

A car with two occupants rammed into a cement wall in Vallejo Sunday, killing both the driver and the passenger.

Around 3:15 p.m., police said they received a report of a solo car collision that occurred in the rear parking lot of a building at 601 Sacramento St. A pair in a 1998 Toyota Camry suffered severe injuries in the crash, police said.

Emergency responders pronounced an unidentified woman, who was seated in the front right seat, dead at the scene. The driver, a 72-year-old Vallejo woman was air-lifted to an area hospital, but she later succumbed to her injuries, according to police.

Police said the woman was driving south in the parking lot but, for some reason, failed to make a left turn. Instead, the car went off the road and hit the cement wall.

Drugs and alcohol do not appear to have played a part in the accident, police said, adding that the victims' identities are being withheld pending notification of their next of kin.

People with information about the incident are asked to contact Officer Jim Melville of the Vallejo Police Department Traffic Division at (707) 648-4014 and refer to case number 16-2336.
