Much of the impassioned immigration debate centers on how to work with families who have children born in the United States, but the parents are here illegally. The current law allows the family to be split apart. Hundreds are in San Jose for an immigration reform rally where people are hoping to change the current rules. NBC Bay Area’s Damian Trujillo has the story of an 8-year-old girl who is living through that experience.

Monday night, hundreds of people are expected to turn out for a meeting in San Jose with Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren on the topic of immigration reform. Many will be giving personal testimonials.

Lofgren will use the information gathered from the forum and take it with her to Capitol Hill for use in her debates there.
Among the testimonials Monday evening will be that of 8-year-old Crystal Destiny. She says she hasn't been with her parents since they were deported when she was an infant. She herself is an American citizen and lives here with her aunt.
Her supporters say Crystal’s story is one of thousands across the country where families are separated after deportation.
